Bosak

Dr. Magdalena Bosak

Senior physician at the Epilepsy Clinic and the EEG Lab, University Hospital in Kraków, Poland

Dr. Bosak received her medical degree from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland obtained her PhD Degree in Neurology in 2012. Her clinical work is concentrated in the area of epilepsy and electroencephalography.

Dr. Bosak has authored two  books on electroencephalography: “Atlas of electroencephalography” and “ Electroencephalography in clinical cases”. She has (co)-authored > 50 peer-reviewed articles,  numerous  book chapters,  and > 40 educational case studies on epilepsy and EEG.

She has performed as Principal Investigator on many clinical trials in the field of epilepsy.

Dr. Bosak is a member of different societies including PTN, PTNK, PTE, EAN and ILAE and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Polish Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel Rein

Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel Rein graduated in Medicine and obtained his M.D. degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He completed his specialty in Neurology at the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre and Fellowships at the Minnesota Comprehensive Epilepsy Centre. He practiced neurology in the USA at the University of Minnesota and Gillette Children's Hospital, Minneapolis and at Rush Medical Centre in Chicago.

He is Associate Head of the Neurology Department and Director of the Epilepsy Unit of the Ruber International Hospital and President of Fundación INCE. Since 1998 he has been Director of the Epilepsy Program at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, a pioneering center in the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of epilepsy in children and adults. More than 150 neurologists and neurophysiologists from Spain and Latin America have been trained there, and several of his students have successfully developed epilepsy centers in other public and private hospitals, both in Spain and abroad. The program he directs was a pioneer in Spain in the genetic diagnosis of complex epilepsies and advanced therapies such as drug repositioning, interstitial laser treatment, deep electrodes and gamma radiosurgery, which have been applied in patients with refractory epilepsy. He directs several research projects of the INCE Foundation (Fundación Iniciativa Para Las Neurociencias) in Madrid.

Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel is linked as a professor at IE University, is Ad Honorem Professor at the Center for Biomedical Technology of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (CTB), and directs the Chair of Epilepsy at the Francisco Vitoria University in Madrid. He was one of the founding members of the European Epilepsy Research Network and the European Epilepsy Monitoring Association.

In addition to being a frequent speaker at national and international meetings, he is the author of several books on epilepsy and electroencephalography, and 195 articles.

Dr. Ricardo Rego

Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and Refractory Epilepsy Center Coordinator, Hospital São João, Portugal

Dr. Ricardo Rego obtained his MD in 1998 at ICBAS - University of Porto. His specialization in Clinical Neurology was attained in 2006 (Hospital Pedro Hispano) and as a resident he developed a keen interest in epileptology,  specially in neurophysiology and presurgical evaluation. He was an epilepsy fellow at Munich's LMU Epilepsy Center under Prof. Soheyl Noachtar's supervision (2005). From 2011 onward, he joined the Neurophysiology Unit  and helped develop the epilepsy surgery program at Hospital São João. His main clinical and research interests are seizure semiology and EEG monitoring.

For over a decade, he has been a member of the direction of the Portuguese League Against Epilepsy. He has served in ILAE's Adapt and Implementation Task Force and translation committees.

Adam Strzelczyk is a neurologist, geriatrician and intensive care physician. His main research interests include health care research, clinical epileptology, electrophysiology, epileptic encepahlopathies and intensive care treatment of status epilepticus. He obtained his habilitation in 2014 at Philipps University Marburg on "Care, Cost of Illness, Morbidity and Mortality of Patients with Epilepsy." Since 2006 he worked as a resident and since 2012 as a senior physician at the Epilepsy Center Hessen of the University Hospital Marburg in Germany. Since 2015 he is lead consultant and head of the Working Group on Health Economics and Outcome Research in Epilepsy at the Epilepsy Center Frankfurt Rhine-Main of the Goethe University Frankfurt. Since 2017 Adam Strzelczyk is member of the executive board of the German ILAE chapter and serves as an editor of the Austrian, German and Swiss epilepsy journal, Clinical Epileptology

Dr. Mahinda Yogarajah

Mahinda Yogarajah is a consultant neurologist and clinical academic based in the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Queen Square Institute of Neurology. His research interest is in epilepsy and functional neurological disorders, and in particular functional seizures. His group currently uses a variety of methods including phenomenological approaches, advanced structural and functional imaging, EEG and psychophysics / psychophysiology to better understand the nature of the behavioural aspects of epilepsy and functional seizures. His research is currently funded by the MRC, NIH and ABN.

He graduated from UCL in medicine with an intercalated degree in Neurosciences. He undertook a PHD within the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy at UCL, based on the application of advanced neuroimaging techniques to patients with epilepsy. He completed his neurology training at the Atkinson Morley Regional Neurosciences Unit at St George's University of London and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Dr. Pyae Phyo Aung

Research Clinical Fellow in Epilepsy, King’s College Hospital, London UK

Dr Pyae Phyo Aung is a Research Clinical Fellow in Epilepsy at King’s College Hospital, London, and a Specialty Registrar (ST7) in Neurology with the West Midlands Deanery. A graduate of the University of Medicine Mandalay, Myanmar, he began his medical career at Mandalay General Hospital and gained further experience at Singapore General Hospital.

Dr Aung has a strong interest in epilepsy. He began his UK career in 2018 under the RCP Medical Training Initiative (MTI) and later trained in Clinical Neurophysiology at King’s College Hospital, acquiring foundational skills in EEG and neurophysiological procedures under supervision.

Since 2020, he has trained across major neuroscience centers in the West Midlands, managing acute neurology cases, conducting clinics, and participating in multidisciplinary meetings. His achievements include receiving the Michael Jefferson Prize for the best registrar presentation.

Dr Aung has presented his findings on Cenobamate for refractory epilepsy at the ABN meeting, ILAE, and AES conferences. He is currently working on a retrospective and prospective study of the selection, monitoring, and outcomes of adult patients with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome treated with Epidyolex at KCH.

His primary interest is in complex epilepsy, and he aspires to continue managing complex epilepsy cases while contributing meaningfully to the field of neurology.

Hareesha Rishab Bharadwaj

Medical student, The University of Manchester, UK

Hareesha Rishab Bharadwaj is a final-year medical student at The University of Manchester with a strong academic and research portfolio in gastroenterology, hepatology, and artificial intelligence in medicine.

As a Healthcare Leadership Academy Scholar, Hareesha is developing the "Equity in Research Education Program (EREP)" to support students from underrepresented backgrounds in pursuing careers in clinical research. His efforts in leadership, teaching, and innovation reflect his commitment to equity and mentorship in healthcare.

He has also earned multiple distinctions and honours, including The International Diana Award for his contributions to education and leadership.

Fluent in five languages and with a deep interest in global health, Hareesha’s work often focuses on challenges in low- and middle-income countries. His long-term vision is to advance academic medicine and lead innovative research to improve patient outcomes worldwide.

Dr. Estefanía Conde Blanco

Epileptologist, Epilepsy Unit of Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, Spain

Dr. Estefanía Conde Blanco is a neurologist with advanced studies in Epilepsy and Biostatistics. From 2017 to 2019, she completed an Epilepsy Fellowship at the Epilepsy Unit of Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, where she specialized in the clinical management of complex epilepsy cases and epilepsy surgery. Currently, she is an epileptologist at the same institution, and conducts research mainly on epilepsy neurophysiology and neuroimaging.  

Dr. Estefanía Conde Blanco’s academic background includes training in various European healthcare systems, including Austria and Germany, and further specialization in Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy surgery through an observership at the Cleveland Clinic Epilepsy Center (Ohio, USA). These experiences have enriched her clinical and research expertise in the field.  

She has collaborated on multicenter European research projects focused on lesion detection in epilepsy patients, as well as national initiatives investigating memory and neuronal oscillations. 

 In 2022, she defended her Ph.D. with honours (cum laude), presenting her thesis on using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to predict cognitive deficits in patients undergoing epilepsy surgery. This research has contributed valuable practical insights into cognitive decline prediction in epilepsy surgery, helping to improve patient outcomes.  

With a solid foundation in both clinical practice and research, Dr. Estefanía Conde Blanco is dedicated to advancing the understanding of epilepsy and exploring innovative approaches to diagnosis and treatment to improve patient care.

Dr. med. Sally Elakkary

Consultant Neurologist, Ost-Westfalen University Hospital, Lippe-Lemgo, Germany

After completing her basic medical education at the University of Alexandria, Egypt, she moved to Germany. She worked for two years at University Hospital Hamburg, Eppendorf, where she completed her doctoral thesis and earned her Dr. med. Degree, alongside a postgraduate diploma in molecular neurobiology. Dr. Elakkary became a certified Neurologist from the German Board of Neurology after her residency at Ost-Westfalen University Hospital, Bielefeld, Germany. She then pursued an epilepsy residency at the Mara Epilepsy Center in Bielefeld and became a certified Epileptologist from the German Board for Epilepsy. Currently, she specializes in epilepsy and is establishing an Epilepsy Unit at Lippe-Lemgo Hospital. Her research focuses on epilepsy in older adults. In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr. Elakkary is involved in medical education, training young neurology residents, and supervising doctoral theses for postgraduate doctors.

Dr. Kämppi (MD, PhD, specialist in neurology) works an adult epileptologist at Epilepsia Helsinki in Helsinki University Hospital (HUS, Neurocenter), as a senior lecturer in Neurology at the University of Helsinki and as a Clinical Researcher in HUS and Academy of Finland.

Dr. Kämppi graduated from medical school in 2006, completed specialization in neurology in 2017 and PhD in 2018, all in the University of Helsinki, and worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University hospital in Frankfurt/Main in 2023.  Dr. Kämppi has her own research group with four PhD students and her research focuses on status epilepticus (SE), especially on the acute phase and the outcome, treatments for rare and complex epilepsies (epilepsy surgery, stimulators (VNS, DBS) and immune epilepsies. Her group has multidisciplinary collaborators across epileptology, neuroimmunology, neurointensive care, clinical neurophysiology and artificial intelligence. She has published and co-authored many peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, Dr. Kämppi is a Board member of Finnish Epilepsy Association and a member of Finnish National co-ordination group for rare and complex epilepsies and EpiCare ERN workgroup on immune epilepsies.

Rohan Kandasamy

Clinical Neurophysiology Registrar and Clinical Research Fellow
University College London/National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery

Rohan is a clinical neurophysiology trainee at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery and Clinical Academic Fellow at the UCL Institute of Neurology's Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy. He is interested in translational research involving seizures and and functional neurology, and computational analysis of biosignals. His current PhD project combines EEG analysis, psychophysical tasks and physiological metrics in the context of functional seizures. He has received the Lord Adrian Prize for his research on individuals with functional seizures, and prizes from the International League against Epilepsy and the British Neuropsychiatric Association. Prior to medical training, he studied physics. When he isn't working on his PhD, he is usually on a bike, reading science fiction, or starting another project that he doesn't have time for.

Dr. Alex Marshall

Research Scientist at the School of Health and Wellbeing, University of Glasgow

Alex Marshall is a research scientist at the School of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow. In 2020 he completed a PhD at Glasgow University focused on the methodological aspects of working with routinely collected data, with a focus on using prescribing data in healthcare research. Currently he is part of a research group investigating a range of topics related to patients with epilepsy including anti-seizure medication adherence, access to specialist services and public health concerns impacting this population.

Dr. Oane’s research focuses on the invasive presurgical exploration of patients with drug resistant epilepsy, in particular functional brain mapping and brain connectivity using electrical cortical stimulation during stereo-electroencephalography.

As a pediatric neurologist, he specializes in pediatric epileptology and developmental disorders. His interest in childhood epilepsy began during his university studies in Paris in 2013. He joined the pediatric epilepsy unit at Fondazione Policlinico A. Gemelli IRCCS, led by Prof. Battaglia, for clinical, neurophysiological, and research training. A significant career moment was collaborating with Charlotte Dravet. Passionate about objective measures of brain function, especially EEG, he trained under Prof. S. Sisodiya at UCL Institute of Neurology and Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy, focusing on TMS-evoked EEG potentials. He furthered his experience as a clinical and research fellow at the Institute of Child Health under Prof. H. Cross in London. Upon returning to Rome, he pursued a PhD in neuroscience at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart, researching heart rate variability in Dravet Syndrome and contributing to a translational grant project on epilepsy's molecular mechanisms and its cognitive and behavioral comorbidities.

Dr. Panagiota Tsalouchidou

Scientific Associate & Consultant Neurologist, 2nd Neurology Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Attikon University Hospital

Dr. Panagiota Tsalouchidou was born in Greece and graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School in 2010. After completing her rural medical service in 2012, she began her Neurology residency in 2013 at the Pediatric Neurology Department of Pendeli Children's Hospital in Athens. In 2014, Dr. Tsalouchidou continued her Neurology training in Germany at Klinikum Bethel, Bielefeld, completing rotations in the Neurology Emergency Department, Stroke Unit, Neurointensive Care, Neurosonology, and Clinical Neurophysiology.

Since 2018, Dr. Tsalouchidou has specialized in epilepsy at the Epilepsy Center Hessen, University Hospital Marburg, Germany. Her clinical responsibilities included managing the outpatient epilepsy clinic, interpreting EEG and video-EEG monitoring for diagnostic purposes, and performing both non-invasive and invasive pre-surgical evaluations for drug-resistant epilepsy. She earned certifications in EEG and Neurosonology from the German Society of Clinical Neurophysiology (DGKN) in 2019 and was board-certified in Neurology in Germany (2021), Epileptology (2021, DGFE), and Epilepsy Surgery (2022, AG Epilepsiechirurgie).

In 2020, Dr. Tsalouchidou completed her doctoral thesis (Dr. med.) on "The Role of Temporal Lobe Encephaloceles in Epilepsy Patients". In 2022, she completed a clinical fellowship in Stereo-EEG and Epilepsy Surgery at CHU Grenoble-Alpes, France, supported by a fellowship grant from the German Society of Epileptology (DGFE).

Since February 2024, Dr. Tsalouchidou has been a scientific associate and consultant neurologist at the 2nd Neurology Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Attikon University Hospital, where she works in the epilepsy inpatient and outpatient clinic. She also maintains active research collaborations with the Epilepsy Center Hessen and the Neurology Clinic of Marburg, focusing on imaging findings and their implications for epilepsy diagnosis and management.

Dr. Kamil Wężyk

Dr. Kamil Wężyk is a practicing neurologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. He works at the University Hospital in Kraków, where he specializes in outpatient care at the Epilepsy Clinic.

Dr. Wezyk graduated from Wroclaw Medical University in 2015 and completed his specialization in neurology at the University Hospital in Kraków. In addition to his clinical practice, he has participated in a Clinical Fellowship in Epilepsy at the Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, funded by the European Academy of Neurology. This fellowship provided him with further expertise in managing epilepsy, complementing his ongoing work in the field.

He is also an academic teacher at Jagiellonian University Medical College, where he contributes to the education of future medical professionals. Dr. Wezyk has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals, with a focus on epilepsy and other neurological conditions.

Dr. Wezyk is committed to delivering evidence-based and patient-centered care, ensuring that his clinical approach is tailored to individual needs. Alongside his clinical and teaching responsibilities, he continues to engage in research aimed at advancing neurological science.
